Job Summary
The Physics Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications to fill a full-time, academic year, tenure-track position, with appointment beginning August 17, 2026. The teaching assignment will include courses at both the introductory and advanced undergraduate levels. Applicants with expertise in all sub-fields of physics are encouraged to apply. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual selected.

Salary
- If appointed at the Assistant Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $97,788 - $107,628.
- If appointed at the Associate Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $112,500 - $118,524.
Responsibilities
Teach courses at introductory and advanced undergraduate levels; engage in teaching that supports student learning and uses creative approaches to instruction.Pursue a systematic program of research and scholarship; engage in curricular improvement and scholarly activities such as peer-reviewed research, conference presentations, and grant development that leads to publication.Participate in service activities including committee work, student advising, and building industry relationships.Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Physics, or a related field, is required prior to the start date of the appointment.The focus of an individual's research specialization is open to all sub-fields of physics.Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, and ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary settings.Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.Evidence of (or potential for) high quality teaching and research with students.Evidence of (or potential for) scholarly productivity.Evidence of (or potential for) promoting higher education and dedication to the well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the department.Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work with a diverse population fostering a respectful, collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.Expertise in an area compatible with or broadening the department's research activities.Experience supervising student research.Special Conditions
