Summary

The Mead School is a small progressive independent day school nestled on 14 beautiful acres in Stamford, Connecticut. We enroll students from Infancy to Grade 8 and honor children as curious and capable learners. Our progressive approach emphasizes hands-on exploration, social and emotional growth, and meaningful engagement with the world. As a small school we foster close relationships among educators, children and families - creating a nurturing and inclusive learning community.

The Mead School is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Substitute Teachers to join our educational community. Substitute Teachers play a vital role in maintaining a stable and effective learning environment when regular classroom teachers are unavailable. This is an on-call, as-needed position with flexible hours.

Duties

Kindergarten through Grade 8 is in session from September to June.

Our hours of operation are 8 : 30 am to 3 : 30 pm.

Sometimes substitute teachers are asked to cover for the full day. Sometimes they are asked to cover for a half day, which is roughly three and a half to four hours.

Responsibilities :

  • Implement lesson plans provided by the absent teacher, ensuring a productive and engaging learning experience for students.
  • Maintain a safe and positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, breaks, and transitions.
  • Ensure students follow school and classroom rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Leave notes for the classroom teacher, summarizing the day's activities, progress, and any concerns.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members, staff, and administration to provide a consistent educational experience for students.
