Assistant Treasurer
The Assistant Treasurer will play a critical role in managing and optimizing the company's financial planning activities, investment portfolio, and liquidity position. This role is responsible for leading the company's corporate finance function, overseeing investment portfolio strategy, ensuring liquidity to support business operations, and managing relationships with external investment managers and financial institutions. The Assistant Treasurer will be a strategic thinker with strong analytic and relationship skills, experienced in enterprise-level financial planning, treasury, and investments.
Primary duties and responsibilities include :
- Management / Leadership
- Manages and develops a team of co-workers with a diversity of skills and experience levels. Provides work direction and monitors overall productivity and work quality. Ensures staff is knowledgeable and cross-trained, encourages self-development, and promotes team participation.
- Responsible for the selection, performance evaluation, and salary administration of co-workers.
- Manages the operational and fiscal activities of the department including : staffing levels, budgets, operational controls and processes, and financial goals.
- Analyzes business processes and issues. Manages departmental policies, procedures, and standards to enhance efficiency and work quality.
- Develops solutions to problems with consideration for department and company goals and direction.
- Develops and manages relationships between departments both inside and outside business unit.
- Responsibilities specific to this role :
- Corporate Finance
- Lead the company's forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning processes.
- Provide financial modeling, variance analysis, and decision-support analytics to senior leadership.
- Drive insights on financial performance, trends, and opportunities for operational and capital efficiency.
- Maintain rating agency capital models and evaluate the impact of strategic operational and financial decisions on rating agency metrics.
- Partner cross-functionally across the company to evaluate strategic initiatives and ensure alignment with financial goals.
- Investment Portfolio Oversight :
- Develop investment strategies for the company's investment portfolio to align with long-term financial plans, considering risk, return, and regulatory objectives and constraints.
- Monitor investment performance, market conditions, and economic trends; provide recommendations for portfolio adjustments as needed.
- Ensure adherence to investment guidelines, policies, and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate reinsurance transaction activity including funding trust arrangements and authorizing pledge activity.
- Liaison with external investment managers and custodians to coordinate investment activities, monitor transactions, and quarterly reporting.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for accounting and valuation related matters.
- Liquidity Management :
- Maintain optimal liquidity levels to support claims, operations, and capital needs; oversee the development of treasury operational best practices.
- Forecast short- and long-term cash flows and develop strategies to enhance liquidity and capital efficiency.
- Execute and monitor cash management activities, including funding strategies and short-term investments.
- Liaison with banking partners on transaction activities and services.
Experience / background includes :
Proven experience leading finance functions including forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.Knowledge of investment instruments, portfolio construction, and risk management principles.Collaborative and adept at facilitating an open exchange of ideas and building relationships and team consensus.Fosters collaboration among team members and business partners throughout the organization; shows skill and ease working within groups and senior leadership, contributes ideas, opinions and skills towards achievement of a common goal.Experience developing talent, inspiring and motivating teammates and achieving results.CPA / CTP / CFA preferred.Enjoy these benefits from day one :
