Debate Access & School Partnership Development Program-QT
Be among the first 25 applicants. This is a full-time AmeriCorps position with a portfolio of schools that have recently formed teams or where coaches are inexperienced and need additional support and training. The role focuses on launching debate programs in neighborhoods not previously served by Chicago Debates. Members provide direct and intensive support to ensure faithful and effective implementation of the Chicago Debates service model as they launch the first after-school debate programs.
The support includes regular in-person and virtual training and troubleshooting sessions with team coaches, observation of after-school sessions to provide students with insights and tips, and logistical support for teams attending Chicago Debates tournaments. This service offers multiple opportunities for leadership and skill development, including managing an assigned caseload and tailoring services to the needs of each school. Members provide one-to-one training for coaches and serve as sounding boards to troubleshoot unique and unexpected challenges at individual schools. Members should arrive at each school visit with a solid knowledge base to guide a broad range of issues. This AmeriCorps service prepares individuals for careers in education, social work, community action, and politics.
