News 3 Now / WISC-TV / Channel3000.com has an exciting opportunity for a Political Reporter to lead our State Capitol and election coverage in one of America’s few battleground states. The right candidate will dig deep into critical issues that matter to voters, break stories on the competitive political state capitol beat and hold people accountable through our Reality Check fact-check franchise. You could do all of this while working for a family-owned company in one of America’s most livable cities.

News 3 Now produces more than 40 hours of television news a week, and we embrace coverage through our app, social, web site and streaming video channels resulting in a digital stronghold position in the market. The right candidate will innovate on TV as well as digital and social channels. We expect our coverage to meet consumers where they are and connect with them in convenient ways. We are searching for someone that also has an expectation of excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead our political reporting coverage on all platforms working primarily as an MMJ
  • Produce and Anchor our Sunday morning political program, For the Record, with long-form political discussions and conversations with community stakeholders.
  • Continue our successful Reality Check franchise holding political leaders accountable for their advertisements and statements.
  • Work closely with management to provide in-depth stories about government accountability, political issues or topics that are important to our community in daily newscasts.
  • Track and communicate political / government story developments for our newsroom.
  • Embrace local news delivery through emerging platforms.
  • Help Wisconsin voters make informed decisions.
  • While most of the work will be focused on politics, some general assignment reporting will be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in journalism, with previous political coverage experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to break stories in a highly competitive environment
  • Four-year degree in journalism, communications or equivalent field required
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
  • Strong command of journalism ethics and the tenets of professional journalism
  • Working knowledge of newsroom software, social media, camera equipment, and editing systems
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
