Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position specializing in adult and geriatric oncology care using EPIC EMR and tele monitoring.
Responsibilities
Work in a Med / Surg Tele unit within a hospitalCare for adult and geriatric patients with various cancer diagnoses including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancersSpecialized treatments include chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)Staffing ratios typically 1 : 4, but may be 1 : 5 depending on unit needsNight shift position with 12-hour shifts (3x12, 19 : 00–7 : 30); day / night rotating shifts may be assigned depending on needWeekend shifts are variable according to unit requirementsRequires the use of telemetry with responsibilities to monitor and interpret dysrhythmiasUses EPIC charting; EPIC experience preferredOrientation includes one week of dayshift classroom training followed by 36 hours of on-unit preceptorshipProvide direct nursing care, administer chemotherapy, monitor telemetry, and manage complex oncology interventionsCollaborate with an interdisciplinary team and utilize rapid response teams as necessaryMaintain strict infection prevention protocols and patient falls managementAdditional responsibilities include feeding tube care, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line maintenanceSelf-scheduling requests are considered, but there is no set or blocked schedulingAll time-off requests must be submitted and approved as part of the contractFirst week of orientation is Monday through Friday on dayshift; second week is 36 hours of on-unit training with a preceptorLocals are accepted at the same rate as travelersFingerprinting for Ohio is required immediately after contract signing; out-of-state candidates must comply with fingerprinting procedures promptlyCandidates must be responsive and timely with the credentialing process to avoid assignment delaysRequirements
Active OH or compact state RN license in hand at time of considerationMinimum 2 years of Med / Surg Tele nursing experience requiredCurrent BLS certification requiredExperience with oncology nursing procedures such as chemotherapy administration and brachytherapyAssociate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an ACEN or CCNE accredited programAbility to accurately interpret and respond to cardiac dysrhythmiasTwo professional references required; at least one from a manager, director, or similar leadership positionPreferred : Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy certificationPrior employment with the institution requires a six-month break before eligibility for travel assignmentsCurrent employees at any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible for this travel assignmentBenefits
