ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Building relationship with family :
- Appears at ease with the family in their environment.
- Engages parents in discussions and reinforces parent's sense of competence.
Being responsive to families
Translates written communication and uses translators with families who do not speak EnglishShares appropriate community resources with families and follows-up.Supports families in making decisions and taking steps to resolve identified needs.Follows the lead of the child and parent by reading their cues and adapts pace of the visit.Discusses with Home Base Coach ways to be responsive to the family's needs.Implementing PBIS
Encourages families use of visuals to support routines and transitions.Teaches parents PBIS Strategies to include : simple, short, specific directions that state expected behavior, social skills and emotional competency, identifies the child's emotions, children to express their feelings / emotions in an acceptable manner, calming strategies, problem solving, supports friendship skills, and supports children with persistent problem behavior.Discusses challenging behaviors with the Home Base Coach.Facilitating Parent Engagement
Supports the Family Partnership process.Assists parents in establishing a safe and healthy home environment.Assists with transition to other programs, communities, and schools.Promotes and supports parent involvement and leadership throughout the program.Home Visitor engages in professional growth.
Assesses own practices, seeks and accepts feedback.Demonstrates open-mindedness and initiative and flexibility to adapt and accept change.Identifies children / families who need referrals.Incorporates and sustains new knowledge from supervision and coaching into daily practices.Identifies and reflects on personal values, experiences and biases that present barriers to work.Seeks guidance and / or assistance as needed in achieving professional development goals.Home Visitor fulfills professional responsibilities established by the program.
Secures required documents.Conducts recruitment activities.Ensures 45- and 90-day requirements are completed on time.Maintains contacts with families individualized based on need.Prepares for child studies and other meetings.Communicates with families and promotes family involvement in the classroom.Practices universal precautions and mandated sanitation procedures.Maintains professional boundaries and confidentiality.Advocates for the family and supports them in advocating for themselves.Develops collaborative teaming relationships which are respectful and responsive.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Access, input and retrieve information from computerFile and organize Head Start information.Inventory supplies and equipment.Familiarity with computer knowledge and skills in computer operations.Attend meetings and trainings as required.Viable means of transportation, and evidence of insurance, valid Iowa driver's license and acceptable driving record.Other duties as assigned.Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Minimum qualification a credential or certificate in social work, human services, family services, counseling or related field. Must have or earn within 18 months of hire.Prefer Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Children & Family Services, Counseling or other related field.Previous experience working with young children and families.Assist in the classroom in the absence of trained staff.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to be an effective team member.Knowledge of HS Performance Standards, State Licensing rules and NAEYC Accreditation.Certifications : Mandatory Reporter, CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions.Limited chauffeur's license with acceptable driving record to transport children in isolated instances.Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on occasion, up to 20-30 pounds frequently and up to 5-10 pounds constantly, performing such activities as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping, including some repetitive motion.Initial physical and one every 3 years thereafter.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the person assigned to this position.
