Overview
We are seeking a full-time Senior Aircraft Systems Safety Engineer in our Olathe, KS; Wichita, KS; or Chandler, AZ location. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the aircraft system safety assessment process and generating and approving the required analyses in support of Garmin STC projects.
Responsibilities
- Work with system safety analysts to establish the system safety approach and documentation necessary to show compliance for Garmin STC
- Support the generation and UM approval of System Safety Assessment documentation in support of Garmin STC projects
- Interface with Hardware, Software and EMC groups to ensure appropriate design assurance levels are considered
- FAA approve Functional Hazard Analysis, qualitative analysis, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis and particular risk / common cause analyses as required to certify the STC installations
- Generate Functional Hazard Analysis, qualitative analysis, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis and particular risk / common cause analyses as required to certify the STC installations for projects not assigned as a UM
- FAA approve test plans and reports and other data supporting system safety assessment process
- Work with engineers to generate and approve compliance statements for 23.1309 and other regulations that require system safety substantiation in support of Garmin STC projects
- Provide guidance and mentoring to system safety engineers
- Interface with ODA Administrators and FAA engineers as required
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Previous experience working in avionics design, installation and FAA certificationMust be detail-oriented and work proactively and effectively with some supervision supportAbility to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environmentDemonstrated knowledge of FAA regulations applicable to avionics and flight controls certification effortsDemonstrated working knowledge of the FAA STC processDemonstrated understanding of commercial avionics interface standards and their installationDemonstrated clear understanding of the FAA system safety processDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsDemonstrated advanced knowledge in one or more of the following technical areas : Electrical Systems, Structures, Mechanical Systems, System Safety, HIRF / Lightning, and / or Aircraft CertificationDesired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Currently hold ODA UM / FAA DER authority in electrical or mechanical systems with system safety authority or meet the minimum FAA experience requirements to obtain such delegationKnowledge of FAA regulations applicable to avionics and flight controls certification efforts particularly those associated with system safety such as 23.1309Thorough knowledge of AC 23 / 25.1309 and SAE ARPs 4761 and 4754Thorough working knowledge of the FAA system safety process, including at least 3 years conducting aircraft level system safety analysisPilot's licenseFamiliar working as a Unit Member on a ODAGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
