Director Of The Office Of Curriculum Evaluation And Effectiveness
The Director of the Office of Curriculum Evaluation and Effectiveness is responsible for oversight and development of strategic, centralized, and school-wide processes that evaluate the effectiveness of the educational program, documenting the extent to which its objectives are met and providing comprehensive, rigorous, and timely reports that inform curricular decision making. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Medical Education and Dean of the School of Medicine.
Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities) :
- Oversee the Office of Curriculum Evaluation and Effectiveness.
- Lead efforts in developing valid assessments of student learning outcomes, including knowledge examinations, objective structured clinical examinations, clinical performance assessments, and other measures.
- Direct the systematic reporting and evaluation / review of each course / clerkship (pre-clerkship and clerkship), each phase, and the curriculum as a whole, including documentation of learning outcomes, evaluation of teaching and learning activities, and the students' course / curricular experience; and work with college leaders to develop, refine and enhance institutional effectiveness through comprehensive reporting and analysis of program effectiveness.
- Conduct research and analysis including but not limited to : analysis of collected data and trends, electronic assessments and evaluations, internal and national record databases, and performance reports.
- Analyze, interpret, and disseminate data related to student outcome measures, academic program review, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness via the newly developed State of the Curriculum Report.
- Oversee the curriculum mapping database for courses / clerkships, which contains all institutional, course, and session objectives in the School of Medicine, aligned to program-level educational objectives and competency domains.
- Serve as SOM and curriculum liaison in support of accreditation needs for initiatives related to Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the accrediting body for all medical schools in the US and Canada, and for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and the Meharry's Plan for Action (MPACT) by providing data on student learning outcomes, statistics, trends, and comparisons.
- Serves on and works collaboratively with several committees and offices, which align with the mission of the Office of Curriculum Evaluation and Effectiveness :

- Curriculum Committee and its Preclinical and Clinical Subcommittees
- Student Disciplinary Committee
- Serves as the Chair of the Curriculum Evaluation Committee
- Contribute to faculty development efforts to improve the curriculum and teaching, as well as institutional effectiveness
- Oversee data and information related to postings and updating the Curriculum Evaluation and Effectiveness Website.
- Oversee the training of faculty, students and staff on the web-based curriculum evaluation management system designed to help manage, collate, and analyze large volumes of information, providing curriculum-specific feedback, for efficient real time reporting in support of compliance with the SOM accrediting bodies.
