Warehouse Clerk

Orders, receives, issues, and catalogs materials, supplies, and equipment for the Big Blue Bus warehouse. Assists and maintains computerized inventory records and inventories of materials, supplies, parts, and equipment. Loads and unloads supplies and operates material handling equipment.

Works under the general supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor and / or designee, who provides detailed work orders, frequently reviews work in progress, and carefully reviews completed work. Supervision exercised : None.

Orders, receives, stores, and issues materials, supplies, and equipment for the Big Blue Bus warehouse. Verifies incoming deliveries for correct quantity, quality, and price. Follows quality service standards and complies with applicable procedures, rules, and regulations. Researches and reconciles delivery and packing slips. Receives reports and vendor invoices. Stores supplies, stocks parts, and related items according to an established storage system. Operates a forklift to load, unload and move pallet and equipment and stack and deliver materials and supplies. Assists in taking and maintaining inventories. Participates in storeroom inventory and cycle counts to maintain adequate supply levels. Utilizes catalogs, parts books, and computerized system(s) to identify and verify stock availability and status. Ensures items are charged to the appropriate charge center. Assists in placing part, material, and supply orders under the direction of the Warehouse Supervisor or designee. Assesses and modifies inventory control systems to identify, generate purchase orders, retrieve, enter, or revise storeroom and warehouse data. Issues requisitioned parts, materials, and supplies in accordance with department policies and procedures. Documents information regarding issuance of requisitioned items. Receives repaired and returned materials from outside vendors. Keeps shelves stock area and warehouse space clean and orderly. Responds to inquiries regarding status of requested materials and parts. Picks up and delivers supplies to various locations, when necessary. Modifies crates, pallets, or boxes to protect goods during safe storage or distribution. Places requisitions or directly orders stock items when supply becomes low or additional items are required. Assists with preparing obsolete inventory for sale or auctions. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Learn computerized recordkeeping and related data entry procedures. Learn computerized inventory control systems. Follow written and oral instructions. Maintain inventory records and logs. Read, comprehend, and use parts books and supply catalogs. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Apply safe work practices. Perform physical labor requiring endurance and flexibility. Lift and move heavy objects. Use independent judgment when ordering and storing items. Maintain accurate records. Conduct inquiries and locate the best sources of supplies for required parts and assemblies. Read, comprehend, and communicate technical information related to the ordering and purchasing of equipment replacement parts and assemblies. Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees and the general public. Provide effective customer service. Skill in : Reading, writing, and communicating at an appropriate level. Using a personal computer and applicable software applications. Basic mathematics.

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Two years of recent, paid work experience performing warehouse, stocking, or inventory operation duties or general labor work involving handling of supplies and equipment. Recent work experience in a mechanical parts warehouse or automotive / truck repair center is desirable. Possession of a valid Class C driver license. Must obtain forklift operator certification within six months of date of hire.

Work is regularly performed indoors in a warehouse but occasionally performed outside in seasonal weather conditions. Work requires exposure to moving objects, noise, vibrations, dust, dirt, odors, slippery surfaces, and oily conditions, and usage of approved safety equipment and protective gear. Physical demands include sitting and working at a computer terminal, heavy lifting of objects, bending, reaching, climbing, and standing. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
