Modeling & Simulation Software Engineering Intern - Spring & Summer 2026

Hermeus is a high-speed aircraft manufacturer focused on the rapid design, build, and test of high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft for the national interest. Working directly with the Department of Defense, Hermeus delivers capabilities that will ensure that our nation, and our allies, maintain an asymmetric advantage over any and all potential adversaries.

As a Modeling & Simulation Software Engineering Intern you will work with the software team to develop performant modeling and simulation code for our 6DOF SITL simulation using Julia. You'll Interface with the Flight Software, HMI, and Flight Sciences teams to meet stakeholder needs and ensure accurate results. Your work will involve creating hardware / physics informed software models and validate results with real data.

Spring : around 12-16 weeks (January - April)

Summer : around 10 weeks (May - August)

Responsibilities :

• Develop performant simulation code for 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) systems using Julia.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Flight Software, Human-Machine Interface (HMI), and Flight Sciences to align simulation outputs with stakeholder requirements.
• Design and implement physics-informed models that accurately represent hardware behavior and system dynamics.
• Validate simulation accuracy by comparing model outputs with real-world flight data and refining models accordingly.
• Optimize simulation performance to ensure real-time execution and scalability across different test environments.
• Participate in code reviews and testing cycles to maintain high software quality and reliability.
• Document modeling assumptions, validation results, and integration workflows for internal knowledge sharing and future development.
