Investment Portfolio Analyst

Wellabe is looking for an Investment Portfolio Analyst to support a range of investment functions to optimize, analyze, and support Wellabe's investment portfolio. This role will have experience with data validation, financial and risk analysis, financial controls, and reporting for stakeholders. It will also play a crucial role in various investment-related compliance processes and support cross-departmental functions.

Essential functions :

  • Financial Analysis & Risk Reporting :
  • Work closely with external asset managers to facilitate performance reporting and cash management
  • Analyze and report on portfolio performance vs. targets
  • Assist with producing monthly investment committee materials and quarterly board reports.
  • Conduct quarterly watchlist and impairment assessments.
  • Provide ad-hoc analytic requests.
  • Compliance :
  • Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and maintenance of evidence of controls.
  • Assist with enterprise risk management processes and analysis.
  • Assist with preparation of investment schedules for required external reporting and filings.
  • Address auditor requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Data Management :
  • Conduct data validation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and manage investment book of record (Clearwater) files for various reports, including management, board, and regulatory reporting.
  • Support the investment data process which includes the automation of existing and creation of new processes
  • Support file preparation for actuarial data needs, ALM, and other ad hoc requests.
  • Reconcile data across Clearwater and other investment systems, ensuring data integrity.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration :
  • Work closely with cross-functional areas, including treasury, investment accounting, actuarial, and ALM, to provide data, ensure data accuracy, and meet project deadlines.
  • Provide support for senior members of the Investments team and external managers in the evaluation of information used in various asset modeling, portfolio optimization, and trade processes.

Actively seeks and proposes methods for process improvements, including automation, in reporting, analysis, and system functions. May have supervisory responsibilities.

Success Profile :

  • Proficiency in investment and financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with financial controls, data validation, and compliance processes
  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft Excel.
  • Active engagement with AI tools and technologies to enhance data analysis capabilities and drive innovation in investment analytics
  • Strongly analytical with problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Team player with ability to collaborate across functional teams and work effectively in a small team dynamic
  • Ability to contemplate ideas through multiple lenses
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter, willing to take on responsibility and hold self and others accountable.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and prioritize accordingly. Willingness to learn new proficiencies to accommodate evolving technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance industry practices and knowledge of securities.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field (preferred).
  • Progression towards a CFA and / or CAIA designation is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of portfolio risk and performance analysis, public and private investment modeling, and / or investment data-related experience.
  • Experience with Clearwater and other financial systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience with R, Python or other data science language is a plus.
  • Experience with fund documentation such as subscription docs is a plus.
