Lead Consultant, Ports and Marine Civil / Structural Engineering
WSP USA is seeking a Lead Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering to join our National Maritime Practice Group. This position can be based in Irvine, San Francisco, San Diego (CA), Miami (FL), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Houston (TX), or Tampa (FL).
Your Impact
- Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings for project development, design, and construction.
- Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities.
- Manage cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level projects or multiple smaller projects, collaborating with other engineers and multidisciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvements and developments. Track budgets and milestone progress and support Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) submissions.
- Write technical reports and document findings using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, technical drawings, and engineering software (including SAP2000 and similar finite element tools).
- Lead staff engineers in applying advanced engineering techniques to develop project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice standards and specifications. Identify site, design, and construction risks and provide mitigation solutions.
- Provide high-level technical assistance on design tasks including advanced finite element models for fixed and floating marine structures; design of miscellaneous steel and concrete components for deep foundations as well as substructure and superstructure elements.
- Prepare and monitor project task budgets, staffing, and schedules. Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams and clients.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Complete assigned trainings and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program; Registered Professional Engineer licensure (multi-state preferred).7 to 10 years of relevant engineering experience with demonstrated marine project design experience (including rehabilitation and new design).Demonstrated ability in analysis and design of marine projects, including proficiency in SAP2020 or equivalent FEM tools; design and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel components per ACI, AISC, PCI, and / or AASHTO.Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT, and related BIM tools.Construction experience in ports and marine projects; experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and design / document delivery to standards and practices.Strong technical writing and communication skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team; attention to detail and prioritization in a dynamic environment.Willingness to travel occasionally as project requirements dictate.Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with 10+ years of post-education design experience in ports and marine structures.Knowledge of domestic and international marine terminal codes (e.g., MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC) and DoD criteria (UFC, UFGC).Experience with LSDYNA or similar engineering software.Active involvement in professional practice organizations.Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.Field investigation and construction support experience for port and marine structures.Open to additional positions for individuals with a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC) in addition to the qualifications above.WSP provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, retirement savings, paid sick leave, paid vacation, parental leave, and paid time off for bereavement, voting, and naturalization proceedings. Compensation : Expected Salary (all locations) : $90,000–$140,000. WSP reserves the right to adjust pay based on experience, location, and internal equity.
