Certified Nursing Assistant - On Call

This position supports the Department's mission to improve public safety by providing necessary, comprehensive, high-quality health services. As an integral member of the Health Services Team, the incumbent works in close liaison with other Physicians, ARNPs, Physician Assistants and other Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) medical, mental health and administrative staff.

This position serves under the supervision and direction of the Health Service Manager 3 and the Facility Medical Director. The Physician 3 analyzes, directs, and coordinates medical care provided to patients at WSP, and assists with the improvement in health care delivery systems at WSP. The Physician 3 actively participates in Coordinated Quality Improvement Program (CQIP).

Duties

  • Provide direct clinical care as needed to accomplish the mission of the WSP Health Services
  • Assess physical and emotional conditions of patients during nursing triage, ambulatory care clinics, and infirmary-rounds, and initiates appropriate intervention according to Health Services policies and procedures, treatment plans and protocols.
  • Respond to health care emergencies throughout the facility and Institution grounds as needed.
  • Provide emergency medical care including CPR using triage format to incarcerate individuals and staff. Refer staff to personal physicians for care following emergency response.
  • Make medical diagnosis based on subjective / objective data collected and presented by subordinate health care staff and-initiates, treatment protocols accordingly. Ensure that practice is consistent with state licensure laws, administrative rules, policies and procedures. Report practice deviations to immediate supervisor and participate in corrective action if necessary.

Collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to develop a comprehensive plan to provide continuity of care. Assist in the development of treatment plans for patients with chronic diseases.

Participate in the development, review, and revision of Health Services Policies and Procedures and Treatment Protocols.

Assist in the development of multi-disciplinary educational programs for staff with the goal of maintaining and updating professional knowledge and competence to provide medical treatment and diagnose disease, injury, and illness.

Assist with continuing education and in-service training of health care staff in presenting material on selected topics as requested by your supervisor.

Assist in the performance evaluations of contract and employed providers, in relation to DOC, DOH, community standards, and WSP / HS goals.

Maintains accurate, legible and complete records of patient care of all patient requests for medical attention, objective data collected, treatment administered, evaluation of treatment effectiveness, and patient education provided.

Participate in institution safety and sanitation inspections and reports inadequacies to the appropriate authority.

Respond to verbal and written requests from the general public, incarcerated individuals, incarcerated individual's families, and institution staff with information or advice consistent with statutes and procedures on health care record confidentiality.

Investigate and respond to incarcerated individual's resolutions, complete incident reports, collects data, investigate and complete reports necessary for the ongoing operation of the Health Services and the institution.

Participate in quality improvement activities within health services, including case reviews, lab processes, death investigations. etc.

Qualifications

Required qualifications :

  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Washington State
  • Unrestricted DEA license with waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder.
  • Physicians without an active buprenorphine waiver will be considered however continued employment will be contingent upon receipt of waiver within 60 days of hiring date.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers certified within 60 days of hire. Certification must be maintained by the employee as a requirement for continued employment.
  • Experience supervising and / or directing health care delivery operations.
  • Preferred / Desired Qualifications :

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited School of Medicine AND completion of an ACGME / ABOM accredited residency program.
  • Board certification in an ABMS / ABOM certified specialty with Internal Medicine preferred. Board eligible physicians may be considered with continued employment contingent upon achieving board certification within 24 months of hiring date (unless the incumbent employee was in the position prior to December 31, 2019).
  • Board certification must be maintained by the employee as a requirement for continued employment (unless the incumbent employee was in the position prior to December 31,2019).

    Tuberculosis (TB) is a priority health issue for DOC employees. The successful candidate may be required to provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days from the date of hire.     Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds. Under rare circumstances this position may be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds.
