Description :

The Cardiovascular Unit provides medical, pre-operative, and post-operative surgical care to admitted patients classified as medium to high acuity.

Patients admitted to the unit are stable but have a high potential for instability.

They present higher complexity and existing co-morbidities, requiring a higher level of nursing care than found in general patient care units.

The patient population served includes young adults through geriatric patients.

Examples of patients include those with cardiac diagnoses, pre / post cardiac artery bypass surgery, carotid endarterectomy, acute myocardial infarction, post pacemaker insertion, arrhythmia detection, and congestive heart failure.

The patient to nurse ratio shall not exceed 1 : 4.

May float to other units as needed.
