About The Position

Job Title : ICU Registered Nurse

Certifications : ACLS, BLS, NIHSS

Must-Have : Team player with experience working in a smaller ICU unit

Description :

Unit has an average of 8 beds with a typical census of 3-4 patients.

Certifications preferred include TNCC and PALS.

Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 to 1-2.

Charting system used is Cerner.

Charge nurses take patient assignments.

A unit clerk is available, but there are no nurse aides.

Weekend requirement includes every other or 4 weekend shifts in 4 weeks.

Staff rotates holidays.

Scrub color is navy.

Central monitoring techs monitor patients.

Ventilators used include Via and Hamilton.

Hospitalists or intensivists are available but not necessarily in-house 24 / 7.

Respiratory Therapy is available 24 / 7.

Pharmacy is available around the clock but has limited access during off-hours.

Call is not required, but staff may choose to take call shifts.

Each shift is 12 hours from 7 PM to 7 AM, with some self-scheduling options.

Schedules are prepared 30-45 days in advance.

Floating is rare; if necessary, staff may float to med-surg or pediatrics if qualified.

Common diagnoses include a high number of sepsis cases, medical-surgical patients, DKA, CHF, and COPD.

Additional notes include that most patients are borderline stepdown.

Cerner experience is preferred, and candidates should be able to adapt quickly to the culture and family-oriented atmosphere.

Infusions commonly include heparin, insulin, levophed, and dopamine.
