The Research Program Manager will serve as the primary operational lead for Dr. Kurt Prins's translational research program within the Gazes Heart Institute and the i3 Cardiometabolic program. The program investigates the pathophysiology of the cardiometabolic mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases. A core focus is the development and testing multiple interventions to counteract pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure. Primary responsibilities of the candidate are focused on providing direct support and guidance to Dr. Prins, collaborating faculty within the Gazes Heart Institute and Cardiometabolic i3, and staff as it relates pre and post award activities, principal investigator (PI) research portfolio oversight and management, and reporting. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing the daily operations of the research laboratory, supervision and performance management of applicable laboratory personnel, organization of strategic research meetings, organizing progress report meetings with Gazes and Cardiometabolic i3 investigators, oversight of development and implementation of new protocols and troubleshoots challenges, assist in the organization of the Cardiometabolic i3 retreat, and communication of data. In collaboration with Department of Medicine's centralized and divisional financial management resources, this position is responsible for assisting with the development and submission of grant applications to include budgeting, as well as post award involvement in financial management and reporting. As a research administrative leader within the Division of Cardiology, the person holding this position must operate with a substantial amount of autonomy and be willing to use sound judgment while adapting to a regularly changing environment that at times can require assistance that is outside their routine responsibilities. As the research mission grows strategically throughout the division, this individual will provide guidance and direction to other divisional programs to include developing research protocol and projects, hiring decisions, equipment purchases, etc. Accuracy, quality assurance, customer service, and effective communication are important requirements as this position engages with a wide range of individuals both internally and externally. Success will be measured by the impact this individual has on the research programs and projects under their purview. This position will report directly to Dr. Prins.

30% - Daily and Ongoing Operations : This position is responsible for oversight of the division's daily and ongoing lab operations with the overarching goal of achieving the strategic research goals and priorities of Dr. Prins. Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

• Oversees and guides laboratory staff in recommendations of changes to protocols to improve validity and accuracy.
• Makes recommendations for acquisition of new equipment and oversees validation and implementation of new equipment and protocols.
• Ensures the work area is maintained in a safe and uncluttered environment and always maintains accountability for the preparation and maintenance of inspection readiness.
• Coordinates research activities with Research Staff.
• Responds to Safety Events and complaints in a timely manner.
• Facilitate cross talk between project members of ongoing projects between basic / translational research and clinical research for ongoing collaborations.
• Assist Dr. Prins with calendar management

30% - PI Research Portfolio Oversight and Management : Oversees the flow of research projects from planning to submission through implementation and closeout. Responsibilities include but are not limited to operations management, quality assurance, and regulatory oversight.

20% - Data Collection, Reporting, and Manuscript Preparation : In collaboration with PIs, this position will be responsible for collecting data and analyzing data, writing, and submitting required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (i.e., IRB) for studies under their purview, as well as assist with revisions and submissions of manuscripts generated for their assigned portfolio.

10% - Staff Oversight : Supervises any research staff employed by the division with a focus on Dr. Prins's Lab to include delegation of responsibilities and performance management. Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

10% - Financial Involvement : This position will be involved with financial management from a knowledge and understanding perspective so appropriate operational decisions can be made. Partnering with the Division Administrator and Department of Medicine Pre and Post Award Team is a crucial requirement so appropriate budgetary and fiscal management can be ensured.
