About the Program
Unity Health Care’s Family Nurse Practitioner Residency Program is a 12-month full-time, salaried residency designed for new FNP graduates committed to serving underserved populations in urban community health settings. The program combines clinical practice, precepted continuity care, didactic education, specialty rotations, and mentoring to develop confident, competent primary care providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under supervision, including physical exams, diagnostics, treatment, and prescribing
- Participate in precepted continuity clinics and specialty rotations
- Engage in didactic learning and skills workshops (e.g., point-of-care ultrasound, EKG interpretation)
- Conduct patient education and chronic disease management
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support comprehensive patient care
- Complete quality improvement projects and maintain accurate clinical documentation
Eligibility Requirements
Graduate of a Master’s or DNP Family Nurse Practitioner program within the past 18 monthsUnrestricted RN licenseFNP national board certification (AANP or ANCC)DC APRN licensureDEA and DC Controlled Substance registration (secured 8 weeks prior to program start)Commitment to serve vulnerable populations in urban communitiesTwo-year post-residency employment commitment with Unity Health CareWhy Join Unity Health Care
