Landscape Technician
Under general supervision, performs technical work in the field of landscape maintenance, ornamental horticulture, and / or landscape construction. Leads and provides training for landscape maintenance projects.
Responsibilities :
- Performs landscaping activities such as planning and layout of projects, planting and cultivating shrubs, trees, turf and flowers, and pesticide applications.
- Inspects and monitors the conditions of the landscape to assess horticultural or environmental problems.
- Advises and instructs grounds personnel in erosion control, mowing practices, fertilization, pruning, irrigation and applications of pesticides to fields and landscape.
- Performs insect and disease identification, soil evaluation, and other evaluative techniques. Determines and takes appropriate remedial action.
- Ensures adequate supplies, materials and equipment are available for assigned projects.
- Ensures the operational safety and readiness of equipment; cleans equipment and performs routine maintenance and repairs.
- Operates landscaping equipment such as aerifiers, sprayers, forklifts, backhoes, mowers, power and hand tools. Cleans project area upon completion of work.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in horticulture, agronomy or related field.Two years in landscape construction, agronomy, or landscape maintenance work.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; to follow oral and written instructions.Operate and perform minor maintenance to assigned hand and power tools and equipment; to perform work in, on, around, under and over trees, shrubs, and buildings and facilities.Work at heights up to 35 feet; to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.Conditions of Employment :
