Role Overview :

An automotive lot attendant, often referred to as a lot technician or lot porter, plays a crucial role in maintaining the organization and appearance of a car dealership or automotive service center's lot or parking area. They also do various tasks needed to conduct day to day business.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Arranging vehicles on the lot in an orderly and accessible manner. This may involve moving cars, trucks, or other vehicles as needed.
  • Keeping the lot clean and free of debris, snow, and ice. This includes shoveling snow, salting icy areas, and disposing of litter.
  • Conducting basic vehicle inspections to ensure they are parked properly, and checking for damage, flat tires, or other issues.
  • Topping off fuel tanks as needed, especially for vehicles on the lot that are for sale or test drives.
  • Ensuring that vehicles are ready for test drives. This may include cleaning the interior, checking the fluid levels, and ensuring the vehicle is in good working order.
  • Interacting with customers who come to the lot to view or test drive vehicles. Lot attendants may need to answer basic questions or direct customers to the appropriate sales or service staff.
  • Keeping track of vehicle keys and ensuring they are properly stored and secured.
  • Lot attendants may be called upon to move vehicles within the dealership, such as transferring them between lots or bringing them to the service department.
  • Performing minor maintenance tasks like checking and inflating tires, jump-starting vehicles.
  • Lot attendants may be called upon to assist other departments in the dealership, such as helping the service department with basic tasks.
  • Dealer swaps and registration runs are also conducted on a as needed basis
  • All other duties assigned by management

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion abilities.
  • Familiarity with automotive financing and leasing options.
  • Knowledge of vehicle features and specifications.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Sales certifications or training may be a plus.
  • A customer-centric approach and a passion for the automotive industry.
  • Computer and communication skills must be at an intermediate level.
  • Employee must have attention to detail.
  • Employee must be able to read, write, understand and speak English.
  • Physical Demands :

    Employee must be able to stand and walk periods of time. Use their hands to handle control or feel objects, tools, or controls. Repeat the same movements for 7hrs a day. Occasionally need to lift boxes up to 10 lbs. Occasional bending, walking, and mobility will be necessary. Employee must be able to get in and out of vehicles and shovel / assist with snow removal when necessary. Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop / bend, and reach. Employee must be able to speak clearly for repetitiously for up to 7-8 hours a day.
