Sheriff's Record Specialist

About the position : Sheriff's Record Specialist I : Under immediate supervision, learns and performs a variety of specialized clerical tasks involving the processing of warrants, jail bookings, crime reports, and other related matters; provides information to law enforcement personnel and the public; and to perform other duties as assigned. Sheriff's Record Specialist II : Under general supervision, performs a variety of specialized clerical tasks involving the processing of warrants, jail bookings, crime reports and related matters, provides information to law enforcement personnel and the general public; and to perform other duties as assigned. The Sheriff's Records Specialist series is utilized in the Records Division of the Sheriff's Office.
Examples of essential duties include performing a wide variety of law enforcement clerical support tasks, maintaining confidentiality of information, and performing data entry of crime reports and restraining orders.
Qualifications for Sheriff's Record Specialist I and II include knowledge of modern office practices, English grammar, and alpha / numeric filing systems, and the ability to write legibly, maintain confidentiality, communicate clearly, follow directions, prioritize workload, exercise tact and assertiveness, maintain accurate records, and receive and account for fees.
Minimum qualifications for Sheriff's Record Specialist I include one year of responsible clerical experience involving legal terminology or record keeping functions. Minimum qualifications for Sheriff's Record Specialist II include two years of responsible clerical experience involving legal terminology or record keeping functions equivalent to a Sheriff's Records Specialist I with Shasta County.
Special requirements include the ability to type at a speed of not less than forty-five (45) wpm and work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to obtain a California Peace Officer Standards and Training Certificate of Completion for the forty (40) hour "Records" course within the first year of employment.
Physical demands and work environment include sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; talking and hearing; standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and crouching or crawling; lifting and / or moving up to fifty (50) pounds; and a usually moderate noise level.
Other considerations include direct deposit of paycheck, valid California driver's license, background investigation, medical examination, and participation in E-Verify. Positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement and are covered under the CalPERS retirement program.
