Job Description

1. Prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.

2. Interprets medication orders (verbal and written) and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately. Maintains accurate, complete patient medication profiles.

3. Ensures that all medication dispensed is filled accurately and properly labeled and in date.

4. Ensures medications are delivered to units within the required time frame, (stat, now, routine, etc)

5. Applies auxiliary labels when appropriate.

6. Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile and parenteral nutrition products accurately.

7. Ensures patient bins are filled with adequate number of doses of medication until the next cart exchange.

8. Checks cart exchange bins within a reasonable period of time

9. Ensures floor stock including automated dispensing machines is maintained and restocked.

10. Ensures any discrepancies are followed up on and all items are accounted for and charged.

11. Reviews override medications and verifies physician’s orders and accuracy.

12. Ensures that all charges have been posted.

13. Uses aseptic technique during IV medication preparation according to proper guidelines

14. Ensures IV label contains required information including expiration date and time where applicable on all IV products dispensed

15. Ensures IV preparation areas are properly cleaned according to standards.

16. Maintains required logs properly (Temperature monitoring, IV room, etc)

17. Maintains security of the pharmacy and medication storage areas within the hospital

18. Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law.

• Supervises pharmacy technicians and interns, reviewing their work for accuracy while assuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures, and provides employee performance feedback to Director of the Pharmacy.
• Removes any stock that will expire prior to the next inspection from shelves, reorders accordingly and documents inspection.
• At a minimum performs monthly inspection of Nursing units and those areas throughout the hospital that contain floor stock medications. Removes any stock that will expire prior to the next inspection from shelves, reorders accordingly, and documents inspection.
• Performs monthly inspections of crash carts. Replaces stock that will expire prior to the next inspection and documents each inspection.
• Any other duties assigned as needed to help drive our Mission and abide by our organizations values.

24. Complete all required education, competencies and / or training as assigned by deadline

25. Regularly attend work as scheduled and on time, regularly attends department meetings.

26. Promote a culture of safety, Follow safety guidelines, Report visitor / patient / employee incidents immediately no later than end of business day.

27. Abide by the Code of Conduct and support the Mission, Vision of Acadian Medical Center and of Allegiance Health Management.

28. Abide by the Departmental and Hospital Policies (i.e. Social Media & Confidentiality Policy), State Laws, Federal Laws, and Regulatory Agencies.

(i.e. TJC,OSHA,HIPAA, CMS, DHH, etc.)

29. Provide excellent customer service internally, externally, and promote teamwork professionally, with a positive attitude following our customer service standard of AIDET, Scripting, Managing Up, Key Words and Key Times, and Service Recovery.

30. Uses only hospital approved cleaning agents always following the manufacturer’s instructions.
