Surgical Technician II - Sports Medicine Orthopedic - Andrews

Job Description

The Surgical Technician II performs technical skills and provides assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses, and other professionals in the operating room. This position performs similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned. This position works under the supervision of the registered nurse in delivering safe, effective care to the patient during the intra operative period. This role effectively interacts with patients and health care team members, while maintaining the surgical department standards and participates in surgical procedures on patients of all age groups, pediatric through geriatrics. This position is responsible for preparation of sterile field for surgical case that includes instrumentation, supplies and equipment, and assists surgeon during procedure by passing correct instrumentation, anticipation of needed instrumentation, supplies, equipment. This role maintains accurate immediate use sterilization logs / practices consistent with organization's policy and procedures. This role utilizes surgical instrumentation knowledge to prepare instruments and equipment for the surgeon to perform the procedure that is scheduled.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
• Performs all responsibilities / duties required, as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
• Submits and maintains regulatory documentation and medical documentation for the physician's office using the practice management software for the electronic medical record.
• Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his / her responsibilities related to general safety, department / service safety, and specific job related hazards.
• Maintains current knowledge / certification. Pursues professional growth and development.
