RESIDENCE : Residence is a requirement for all positions. Distinguishing Features of the Class
On an assigned shift, an incumbent is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a high or low pressure steam plant, central and remote heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, compressed air supply, multiple hearth incinerators, and auxiliary equipment. Incumbents perform work, routine in nature, requiring a knowledge of the principles of operating steam boilers, combustion and various ancillary equipment. A Second Class Stationary Engineer is assigned to a shift and works under direct supervision from a stationary engineer or designated personnel. Various tasks are assigned individually but routine performance of them is usually not subject to immediate review. Work is checked by periodic inspections and repair jobs are carefully inspected on completion.

Minimum Qualifications
Continuous and permanent status as a Junior Housing Project Engineer, Steam Heating Equipment Worker or Heating Equipment Service Worker in any city department for one year.
Special Requirements
Open Competitive
Possession of a current Second Class Stationary Engineer's License in accordance with city ordinance at time of filing application.
and
Possession of a current New York State Driver's License which must be presented at time of appointment.
