Wellstar Health System is seeking a Communication Officer to support protection of patients, public, staff and hospital property, train personnel, and coordinate with public safety officials as needed.
Overview Responsible for and assists with all communication duties essential for safety and security. Interfaces with public safety officials, processes badges, and maintains data entry in the Security Services productivity system. Reports to the Communication / Security Site Supervisor.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Answer telephones and dispatch security staff; monitor video surveillance and access control systems
Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, determine call nature, priority, and enter information into the computer
Prioritize calls and dispatch security staff per departmental policy
Monitor access control intercom systems and provide aid per policy
Monitor security surveillance systems and alert appropriate personnel to irregularities
Interact with the public by phone to answer questions, provide information, or resolve problems (e.g., lost / stolen property, impound information, accident reports)
Monitor alarm systems (panic, infant, refrigeration, fire, intrusion) and dispatch responders per action plans
Process bank deposit bag drops and transfers; maintain daily activity logs
Provide access to team members via local access control system; accept, secure and release valuables
Process photo IDs and parking decals as required; maintain accurate incident reports
Maintain professional conduct : honesty, integrity, respect for others, and positive relations with facility staff
Communicate effectively with diverse people including patients, visitors, employees and medical staff
Provide clear, accurate, legible reports; comply with Wellstar Health System policies and code of conduct
Qualifications Required Minimum Education : High school diploma or GED equivalent
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) : All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated
Additional Licenses / Certifications : As required
Required Minimum Experience : Minimum 1 year of dispatch / communication experience preferred
Required Minimum Skills : Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; proficiency with CAD; data entry for incident reports and badge processing; strong public relations skills; ability to communicate courteously and professionally; ability to maintain confidentiality
