Custodian
At The Salvation Army, we are dedicated to "Doing the Most Good". We do this through programs designed to combat homelessness and hunger, provide safe spaces for youth after school and on the weekends, achieve and maintain sobriety, and give hope to the hopeless. The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need.
As the custodian, the person in this position will clear rooms of all garbage and haul it away. This person will clean the restroom, kitchen, offices and common areas. Perform small maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, unclog toilets, mow or shovel walks, paint, spray weeds and anything else deemed necessary by the Corps Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Dust, organize and vacuum / mop all spaces including but not limited to : Chapel, Offices, Foyer, Nursery, Boardroom, Classrooms, Community Hall, Community Center Offices and classrooms, Foyer, Hallways and stairways.
- Pickup and organize toys etc. left by children or others.
- Take out trash from all rooms to dumpster
- Clean tile floors weekly or as needed
- Check restrooms daily for needed supplies and cleanliness
- Clean restrooms after programs and on Friday for Worship Sunday
- Clean kitchen floor
- Responsible for chair and table set-ups as directed by leadership
- Keep up lawn during season
- Remove weeds in cracks during season
- Keep sidewalks clear for safety
- Light maintenance i.e., clogged toilets, light bulbs, paint repair etc
- Haul boxes etc. to dumpster or correct place for recycling
- Setup / Teardown for Home League and Seniors Meeting
- Perform other duties as assigned as related to the essential responsibilities.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Education :
High School Diploma or equivalent or related certificate preferred. Significant experience may be considered in lieu of.Experience :
At least two years of experience in janitorial / custodial services. Must possess good organizational skills, reading skills, effective problem-solving skills, and good judgement.Skills / Abilities :
Displays leadership qualities and organizational skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.Close attention to detail and a high level of confidentialityAbility to multi-task several projects concurrentlyMust have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.Ability to establish and implement policies and procedures.Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications.Job Limitations :

The individual will keep the designated Supervisor informed of all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.Physical Demands / Work Environment :
Must be able to lift, carry and or move 30 pounds on a regular basis. He / she must be able to operate yard, floor, snow removal and other maintenance equipment on a regular basis. Must be able to work sustained periods in harsh exterior environments such as snow and ice removal, yard work, etc.Office work environment with low to moderate noise levels; industrial building work areas such as boiler and equipment rooms with moderate to loud noise levels; outside work areas with small to mid-size motors with moderate to loud noise levels.This position may be required to do light to moderate physical work. Sometimes heavier.To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment including a PC and potentially make public presentations / interactions.The work environment for this position includes an office / work environment with a low to moderate noise level.This individual must be able to travel to meet the needs of the position. A valid MVR is required.Reporting Relationships :
This position reports to the Corps Officer(s) but will work in coordination with Corps staff.In context related to this position's duties, this individual will interact with a wide range of contacts both internal and external. In these contacts he / she will act as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.Competencies :

Performance will also be determined by outcome information provided during weekly staff meetings and monthly reports.Successful execution of seasonal fundraising events.Successful development of year-round local media presence.Success of designed grant applications and funds.Up-to-date Social Media platforms and Webpages.Team performance and staff development outcomes.Efficiency of reporting, statistics and requested data from those supported and who support.Quality and consistency of grant management and overall support.Position Limitations :
