The Recreation Specialist is a full-time position within the Parks and Recreation Department responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a variety of City-sponsored recreational programs, activities, events, and facilities. This position plays a vital role in Youth & Family fostering community engagement, promoting health and wellness, and ensuring inclusive and accessible recreational opportunities for all.
The Recreation Specialist reports to the Recreation Manager.
- Designs, plans, and delivers leisure programs in areas such as youth and family, volunteer initiatives, outdoor recreation, and adaptive recreation.
- Researches community needs and national recreation trends to ensure programs meet the diverse interests of Missouri City residents.
- Manages scheduling, budgeting, and administrative functions for assigned programs and events.
- Secures sponsorships, recruit participants, and coordinate volunteers.
- Prepares and distributes promotional materials that align with the City's brand.
- Collaborates with other City departments to ensure safe, successful, and well-attended events.
- Monitors event budgets and provide follow-up to sponsors and stakeholders.
- Coordinates and oversee facility rentals and City events to maximize public use and community benefit.
- Prepares revenue reports, process payments, and manage instructor / official compensation.
- Ensures facilities meet Missouri City's standards for cleanliness, safety, and accessibility.
- Serves as a professional representative of the City by responding to public inquiries regarding activities, facilities, and reservations in a courteous and timely manner.
- Process registrations, reservation forms, invoices, and other documents in accordance with City policies.
- Supervises Community Center or Recreation and Tennis Center operations, including camps, leisure programs, and events.
- Hires, schedules, trains, and evaluates assigned staff and contractors.
- Conducts staff meetings, maintains timesheets, and ensures quality customer service consistent with the City's mission.
- Oversees maintenance of fitness equipment and other facility resources
- Performs other duties assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Parks or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of three (3) years of related professional experience.
The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and / or experience.
