Weeknight and weekend on-call duties for either the Behavioral Health Intensive Care Unit (BHICU) at the Sacramento VA Medical Center or the Joint Inpatient Mental Health Unit (JIMHU) located at Travis Air Force BaseOn-call rotations last one week and are usually Friday through Thursday, including weekends and holidaysOn-call duties include potential admissions to the inpatient psychiatric unit, evaluating patients, evaluating emergent psychiatric consults, and rounding on the inpatient psychiatric unit during weekends and holidaysPsychiatrists generally are on-call three to five times per year depending on sitePrimary Responsibilities :
Provide same-day addiction services to support patients with Substance Use Disorders (SUD), especially Alcohol and Opioid Use DisorderWork with ARTS nurse case managers to assess and diagnose patients, complete ambulatory detox, and follow up with patients until stabilizedPrescribe medications for psychiatric comorbidities as neededOrder and follow up with labs, coordinate careProvide SUD education to patients and staffAct as liaison to other MH programs and medical departmentsOffer inpatient consultations and co-management with outpatient teams for complicated patientsMaintain a panel of patients to ensure longitudinal care within ARTSQualifications :
Ability to conduct assessments, formulate diagnoses, and develop treatment plans for patients with substance use and / or other psychiatric disorders using an interdisciplinary team approachManage psychiatric medication, evaluate general medical suitability for withdrawal management, detoxification, and / or psychiatric hospitalizationAbility to prescribe medications for the treatment of substance use disorders, including buprenorphine, as well as medications for other psychiatric disordersStrong collaboration, coordination, and cooperation with colleagues within and across disciplinesReports to the NCHCS ARTS Program Director and the NCHCS ARTS Medical DirectorFor more information and to apply, please contact : Kelly De Boer, VA Physician Recruiter kelly.deboer@va.gov
