The Opportunity

The Senior Superintendent is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and successful execution of construction projects in the field. This role requires being on-site five days a week, actively managing day-to-day operations to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

In addition to running projects as a Superintendent, the Senior Superintendent will act as a mentor and leader—supporting, coaching, and developing other Superintendents to elevate overall field performance.

Note : This position requires the candidate to work on the assigned project site and may involve travel to oversee other superintendents’ job sites. South East Michigan / Metro Detroit

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Leadership & Execution
  • Lead all site operations to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, budget, and schedule.
  • Manage subcontractor activities, manpower, materials, and equipment to maintain project momentum.
  • Conduct daily jobsite walks, safety inspections, and quality control checks.
  • Serve as the on-site representative for The Monahan Company, maintaining strong client and partner relationships.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Administer corporate safety policies and enforce OSHA regulations.
  • Lead toolbox talks, site safety meetings, and regular safety audits.
  • Ensure safety culture is modeled and upheld by all site personnel.
  • Project Management Support
  • Assist with estimating, material ordering, and coordination with project managers.
  • Participate in project scheduling, RFIs, submittals, and change order reviews.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists and turnover.
  • Mentorship & Leadership
  • Oversee and mentor Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and other site staff.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to elevate performance and ensure consistency across projects.
  • Support policy and procedure development to strengthen field operations.
  • Client & Partner Relations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and trade partners.
  • Represent The Monahan Company in meetings with owners, architects, engineers, and inspectors.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration between field teams and office staff.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive construction field experienc e, with at least 5 years as a Superintendent on commercial projects.
  • Proven track record managing large-scale projects ($10M–$50M+).
  • S trong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and best practices.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, permitting, and inspections.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, or similar).
  • OSHA 30 required; First Aid / CPR preferred.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop field teams.
