Job Description
Position Summary
The Structural Steel 3D Modeler plays a hands-on, technical role within our engineering team, modeling and detailing complex dry bulk storage structures and projects from concept through production. This role encompasses creating 3D models from scratch, modeling connections, mezzanines, stairs and railing, detailing 2D erection and fabrication drawings, exporting CNC files, creating raw materials lists for procurement and support to the shop floor.
The ideal candidate thrives on solving technical challenges and enjoys working directly with customers and fabricators. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys seeing their design come to life in the shop!
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Execution
- Complete assigned projects, starting with engineered design and creating all content for production release.
- Read Structural & Architectural design drawings or 3D models.
- Translate customer requirements into manufacturable designs.
- Develop anchor bolt plan, erection plan and elevation & section views for field use and draw details and sub materials for shop fabrication.
- Prepare raw materials lists, purchased items and bolt counts for procurement and support purchasing processes.
- Review and approve drawing packages, cut lists, and fabrication documentation.
- Prepare identification tags for all shipped items for field & erection purposes.
- Create load planning of structural steel for shipping department.
Modeling & Detailing
Create 3D models from scratch from engineered & approved layout drawings using SDS2 software.Model all columns, beams, bracing, connections, mezzanines, stairs and railing and any other misc. items.Detail 2D anchor bolt plan drawings, field erection view drawings and shop fabrication detail drawings of weldments and piece parts.Technical & Team Collaboration
Participate in daily and weekly team engineering meetings.Help refine company standards and processes to support quality, safety, and code compliance (AISC, ASCE, IBC, OSHA, ANSI).Collaborate closely with Sales, Operations, and Production to meet deadlines and customer expectations.Qualifications
Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Technology.3+ years of 3D modeling / detailing experience using SDS2 software.Dedicated attention to detail, thoroughness and tenacity.Advanced understanding of structural design of beams, columns, bracing, connections, base plates and anchor bolts.Highly experienced with industry codes & standards including AISC, AWS, ASCE, IBC, ANSI, and OSHA.Shop fabrication or structural steel construction experience a plus.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Positive, proactive attitude and team-first mindset.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.Willingness to work on-site, 45 hours per week.Work Environment
