JOB TITLE : News Director

JOB PURPOSE : Directs gathering and production of news and features for broadcast and digital platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Directs gathering and production of news and features content for broadcast and digital platforms.

Supervises personnel to include allocating work and solving problems.

Responsible for evaluating performance and managing staff members.

Generates assignments and evaluates news leads and news tips to develop stories.

Ensures the accuracy of the broadcast programs by gathering and verifying information regarding stories.

Edits material and reporter submissions.

Prepares and writes stories according to standard editorial style and format; serves as fill-in anchor or host.

Monitors equipment usage and ensures the maintenance of equipment inventories.

Attends the monthly Student Media Board meetings.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY : This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Full-time student for the entire academic year.

Minimum 2.5 GPA.

Ability to develop broadcast programs on-air and online.

Knowledge of broadcast journalism principles and techniques.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Some supervisory experience.

Knowledge of on-air and online techniques, protocols and standards.

Knowledge of broadcast production techniques.

Knowledge of industry-related software.
