$23.86 to $26.25 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Government Center / Viera. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m.Performs entry-level technical work assisting in the inspection, investigation, and enforcement of codes, ordinances, and regulations relating to unlicensed construction contractor activity, contractors working outside of their classifications, and permitting, zoning, land use and property maintenance, solid waste, housing, vehicle abatement, marine turtle lighting, adult entertainment, blight, and health and safety.
REQUIREMENTS : Two (2) years [60 semester or 90 quarter hours] of college-level credit with major coursework in Sociology, Psychology, Allied Legal Services, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a closely related field PLUS two (2) years of experience in civil investigation, criminal investigation, the building construction field with knowledge of building codes and regulations, or a closely related field, interpreting and explaining rules, codes, and / or regulations; OR four (4) years of experience as a local government licensing investigator, building code inspector, code enforcement officer, or a closely related field;ORBachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or a closely related field. Additional qualifying education and / or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Experience performing licensing and / or code enforcement inspections for a public agency is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within twelve months of employment, the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Fundamentals of Code Enforcement (formerly Level I) certification and maintain said certification during the term of employment. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
