The State of Florida Department of Transportation is seeking an Automotive Equipment Mechanic II.

Job Summary :

Performs skilled work as an automotive equipment mechanic, troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, performing routine maintenance on gasoline or diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other parts and major components in automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, and other related equipment.

Responsibilities :

  • Performs skilled work in the diagnosis, repair, overhaul, and replacement of gasoline or diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other parts and major components.
  • Field tests vehicles and equipment to ensure repairs have been satisfactorily completed.
  • Repairs, changes, and balances tires on automotive and heavy equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work to ensure equipment is maintained and in proper working order.
  • Complies with all waste generation, storage, and disposal laws, rules, and policies.
  • Submits requests for parts and supplies.
  • Responds to emergency road service calls and performs minor repairs to vehicles and equipment.
  • Cleans up after repairs and returns tools to their proper location.
  • Performs minor welding, paint, and body repairs as needed.
  • Instructs other mechanics or helpers in the repair of automobiles, trucks, and other equipment.

Requirements :

  • Possess a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency and two years of experience as a mechanic in passenger vehicle and heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Possess a valid Class E driver license and obtain a Class B CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a valid Class B CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Knowledge of repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, small engines, and heavy equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles, troubleshoot automotive and equipment problems, and perform a variety of gasoline or diesel repair and maintenance.

  • Competitive salary range : $47,090.27 - $60,940.35 annually.
  • A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.
