Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with at least 3 years of recent ICU experience and an active AZ or compact license for a Level 1 trauma environment.
Responsibilities
Work in a 32-bed Surgical ICU with trauma, neuro, and specialty neuro-surgery cases, as well as medical / cardiac ICUs and overflow unitsLevel 1 trauma center treating patients over age 15, including falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVA, CVA, status post-TPA, sepsis, ARDS, and COVIDNurse to patient ratios of 1 : 2 or 1 : 1 depending on acuityRequired to work night shifts with 12-hour shift lengthSchedule requires 3 weekend shifts within a 4-week period; weekend shifts differ for day and night shiftsSelf-scheduling is available, with the manager balancing shifts as neededFirst to float, including to telemetry or sister facilities as needed, with float ratios of 1 : 3 or 1 : 4 on teleUse Cerner EMR; experience preferred but not requiredRNs are required to interpret telemetry strips with GE monitors and titrate a variety of critical care dripsRespiratory therapists and intensivists are in-house 24 / 7; charge nurse on unit does not take patientsNavy scrubs requiredCare for trauma, neuroscience, cardiovascular, and surgical patients in a high-acuity environmentFloat between surgical, medical / cardiac, and overflow ICUs as well as telemetry as neededThere are no monitor techs or nurse aides; RNs interpret their own cardiac strips and perform full patient careTesting of sterile technique for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes is required on the first dayHoliday coverage is expected, with the possibility of having only one holiday off per assignmentSkills validation provided for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices during 1-2 days of orientationFirst-time travelers are welcome if all clinical requirements are metRequirements
Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not acceptedMinimum 3 years of recent ICU experience, including either neuro or cardiovascular experienceCurrent BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not acceptedMust pass a dysrhythmia exam (Relias) within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance, with a maximum of 2 attemptsPass / fail simulation lab on first day of orientation is requiredExperience with titration of drips, including sedation and vasoactive medicationsCandidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facilityCandidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past yearBenefits
