Job Description
The Project Accountant will support the financial success of MEP engineering projects by managing budgets, tracking project costs, and ensuring accurate and timely billing. This role works closely with project managers and finance teams to monitor project performance, prepare financial reports, and maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. The Project Accountant plays a key role in forecasting project profitability and identifying financial risks or discrepancies. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and knowledge of project accounting principles are essential for success in this position.
Salary - $50,000 - $70,000

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field2 - 5 years of experience in project accountingStrong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), invoicing, and financial reportingProficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint or Vision ERP systemsExcellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detailStrong communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate with project teams and clientsAbility to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines under pressureProfessional certifications such as CPA or CMA, preferredIndustry experience related to engineering design and government contracting, preferredValid Texas Driver License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and background check is required.Expectations
Manages and maintains project budgets, including forecasting labor and material costs.Reviews, approves, and processes supplier invoices, contractor payments, and overhead charges.Prepares and issues invoices to clients and ensures timely collection of payments.Works with project managers to ensure employee utilization is maximized.Monitors project financial performance by analyzing variances, cost overruns, and revenue recognition.Collaborates with project managers to provide timely financial reports and forecasts.Handles month-end and quarter-end accounting activities including reconciliations and accruals.Maintains project-related records such as contracts, change orders, and billing arrangements.Assists in audits by preparing required documentation and reports.Ensures adherence to company accounting policies and external compliance requirements.Supports project accounting software setup and data management.Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.The above description covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job.
