Overview

Workplace Classification : Hybrid. This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. On-site up to 3 times per week with flexible schedule for periodic race weekend remote support. The Team : GM's Motorsports Software team analyzes, defines, and delivers next generation groundbreaking Motorsports IT software solutions. These solutions enable interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and our Race teams to accelerate drivers to the finish line first. Our team includes analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and product managers who work with GM Motorsports Engineering and Racing teams to ensure podium results for GM's Formula 1, NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA / WEC sportscar programs. The Role : As a Senior Data Engineer, you will build industrialized data assets and optimize data pipelines in support of Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytic objectives. You will collaborate with Data Scientists, BI Developers, System Architects and Data Architects to deliver value to our vision for the future.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and maintain Master Data, Metadata, Data Management Repositories, Logical Data Models, Data Standards.
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements : automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, redesigning infrastructure for scalability, etc.
  • Build industrialized analytic datasets and delivery mechanisms that utilize the data pipeline to deliver actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business metrics.
  • Work with business partners on data-related technical issues and develop requirements to support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Create highly consistent and accurate analytic datasets suitable for business intelligence and data science teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Operations Research, Engineering, Economics, or other quantitative field.
  • 5+ years experience with object-oriented / object function scripting languages : Python, Java, C++, or Scala.
  • At least 3 years hands-on experience with Big Data Tools : Kafka, Databricks, Flank, etc.
  • Advanced SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra.
  • Experience in developing large-scale integration and API solutions.
  • Experience with cloud compute and storage platforms Azure, AWS, Google, and associated data tools.
  • People skills : ability to tackle problems quickly and completely; ability to identify tasks that require automation and automate them; understanding of networking / distributed computing concepts; ability to multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Akka, Python, Kubernetes, Docker, GRPC.
  • Data Wrangling and Preparation tools : Alteryx, Trifacta, SAS, Datameer.
  • Previous IT experience with Motorsport / Racing history is a plus.
  • PhD or Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering, Economics, Data Science, or other quantitative field.
  • Stream-processing systems : Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.
  • Academic or work experience in a data-intensive field or industry.
  • Machine Learning Libraries : TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, Spark ML, or equivalent.
