Summary
Engineering staff position to support the activities of Materials Science and Engineering in the areas of production, processing, and characterization, mechanical, and thermo-mechanical testing of metallic materials. The staff member may also assist in the design and fabrication of unique test fixtures or testing systems, as well as the execution of other research activities required for externally sponsored research programs.
Responsibilities
- Support MSE research projects, users, and infrastructure.
- Manage all aspects of externally and internally funded projects, including budget preparation, planning of research scope and deliverables, execution of planned research, preparation of data, report preparation, and presentation of findings.
- Assist in the maintenance of research laboratories, equipment, and instrumentation.
- Support laboratory instruction in the Materials Science and Engineering department.
- Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
- Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, or related field.
Required Experience
Four years of experience in metals manufacturing or metals research at a university, national laboratory, or in industry.Experience analyzing, preparing, and reporting research results for publication or presentation in technical forums.Hands-on experience with materials fabrication, testing, and characterization techniques, which may include metals casting, X-ray diffraction, microscopy, and mechanical or thermo-mechanical test systems.Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.Desirable Education and / or Experience
Experience in analyzing, preparing, and reporting research results for journal publications, technical reports, or presentations in technical forums.
