What you'll do
Manage projects and oversee the development, construction, and deployment of global satellite gateways. This high-impact role begins at the conceptual phase, challenging you to introduce innovative ideas rooted in your deep experience with designing and commissioning wireless facilities. You'll drive organizational efficiency through the clever application of technology and automation while ensuring accountability by expertly developing RFPs, evaluating bids, and drafting contracts for third-party partners. If you possess a strong background in telecom facility design, construction oversight, and installation management-and thrive on tackling complex logistical and technical challenges like line of sight, emergency power, and managing large-scale equipment deployments-then you are the dynamic leader Viasat needs to make the impossible possible.
The day-to-day
- Lead Ground Network Deployment : Direct internal teams and third-party contractors responsible for the design, construction, and installation of ground-based satellite gateways globally for both commercial and government users.
- Critical Thinking and Practical Implementation : Assess critical viewpoints while accomplishing practical tasks during the development, construction, and deployment stages of ground satellite gateways.
- Program Conceptualization : Engage and contribute expertise from the initial conceptual phase of programs, offering new concepts and ideas based on prior experience in designing, building, and commissioning wireless communications facilities.
- Improve Efficiency through Automation : Apply technology and automation to introduce efficiencies across the entire ground deployment organization.
- Contract Management : Develop Requests for Proposals (RFPs), evaluate bids, and draft contracts to ensure third-party contractors achieve critical achievements and quality standards.
- Oversee Facility Builds : Oversee and manage the construction of telecommunications and / or data center builds (e.g., earth stations, cell towers, distributed antennas, small cells).
- Technical Design and Management : Apply a strong background in telecom facility design, construction management, and equipment installation, including understanding factors like line-of-sight concerns, equipment placement tradeoffs, and emergency power systems, especially in large equipment deployments.
Government / Military Compliance (Beneficial) : Apply experience from working on military bases and familiarity with
Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs) when applicable.What you'll need
A minimum of 15 years of experience developing and evaluating telecommunications facilities. This must include a strong focus on civil engineering, construction techniques, performing detailed trade studies, evaluating cost proposals, and managing diverse contractor teams.Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.Team Leadership : Prior experience in leading and developing a team of both engineers and construction project managers.Program Planning & Budgeting : Proven ability to develop wireless deployment program schedules and budgets from scratch.Contract Documentation : Significant experience producing formal contract documents, including Statements ofWork (SOW) and Requests for Proposals (RFP), in partnership with external vendors.Project Tracking : Experience in managing and maintaining project integrity, including tracking progress, ensuring thorough documentation, and providing regular updates on project status.Communication & Executive Presence : Exceptional communication skills required for engaging with all levels of management, coupled with a demonstrated executive presence.Problem-Solving : Strong skills as a critical thinker with proven creative problem-solving abilities.Organization : Must be diligent and meticulous.Technical Proficiency : Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of software.Ability to travel up to 25% (domestic and international).US Citizenship is required.What will help you on the job
Extended Experience : 20+ years of progressive experience in similar positions (exceeding the 15-year requirement).Satellite Expertise : Direct experience in the design and construction of Satellite Earth Stations.Government / Military Familiarity : Prior experience with Mil-Spec contracts and familiarity withUnified Facilities Criteria (UFCs), which govern construction on U.S. military bases.Comprehensive Construction Management : Extensive experience with Civil Works and Facilities Design & Construction Management.Salary range
$191,500.00 - $309,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $238,000.00- $357,000.00 / annually
