THE POSITION
The City is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Finance / Treasury Department as either an Accountant I or Accountant II, depending on the professional experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. This position will perform tasks related to a wide variety of financial duties and special projects in the following areas; general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, revenue (tax collection), accounts receivable, procurement, project management, budget, grants, special funds, fixed assets, banking and investments. Responsibilities include but are not limited to : preparing routine journal entries; reconciliating general ledger accounts; analyzing budget variances; preparing audit schedules for external auditors; reconciling bank statements; maintaining fixed asset documentation; participating in procurement activities; preparing financial reports; providing grant accounting support; assisting City personnel with proper expenditure coding, budget inquires, and financial document processing. Under general direction from the Finance Manager the position will also perform other related duties and special projects as required or becomes necessary for the successful performance of the City’s Finance / Treasury Department.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); principles and practices of governmental accounting and public finance administration including budgeting, auditing, and reconciliation; municipal taxation and revenue management. The successful candidate will maintain current knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations and guidelines as they pertain to municipal finance. Also, the successful applicant should be able to correctly apply accounting principles and procedures to a variety of transactions, analyze and resolve technical financial issues, and prepare accurate financial reconciliations and reports. In addition, the candidate will need to establish and maintain positive working relationships with City staff, consultants, auditors and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS (The following are the minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)
Education / Experience :
Accountant I : A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public or Business Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is required. At least one (1) year of professional accounting experience, preferably within a public agency.
Accountant II : In addition to Accountant I, at least three (3) years of accounting experience, preferably within a public agency.
License / Certificate : Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to get from point to point for meetings, events and trainings.

Retirement : The City is a member of the San Bernardino County Employees’ Retirement Association (SBCERA) which is reciprocal with CalPERS . The City’s retirement formula is 2% @ 55 with prior qualifying public service or effective January 1, 2013 the formula is 2.5% @ 67 for new participants.
Annual Base Salary Range :
Accountant I : $85,405-$103,813
Accountant II : $93,954-$114,192
Salary / Compensation : $85,405 - $114,192 per year
