About the Opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced  Licensed Structural Engineer (P.E.)  interested in flexible, project-based work. This role is ideal for a  retired engineer looking to stay active  in the profession or a  working professional seeking occasional supplemental work .

You’ll play a key role in supporting residential and light commercial structural projects, providing professional insights, calculations, and reviews as needed.

This is a  remote, part-time, as-needed position  — perfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving and applying their expertise without the demands of a full-time schedule.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform structural assessments  for residential and commercial properties.
  • Design beams, columns, and load-bearing elements  to meet code and client requirements.
  • Conduct periodic inspections  of construction projects or existing structures.
  • Review and stamp structural plans , ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Assist clients with plan reviews  and support them in obtaining building permits.
  • Provide professional consultation  and technical support for various small-to-medium structural projects.

Workload & Schedule

  • Project-based workload :   typically 2–3 hours per week , with occasional peaks up to  8–10 hours .
  • Some weeks may have  no work , depending on project flow.
  • Flexible schedule — work can be performed on your own time, as long as deadlines are met.
  • Qualifications

  • Active Structural Engineering License (P.E. or S.E.)  required.
  • Minimum  5+ years of experience  in structural engineering (residential and / or commercial).
  • Strong knowledge of  IBC, IRC, ASCE, and ACI standards .
  • Proficiency with  structural analysis software  (e.g., RISA, Enercalc, or similar) preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality engineering work.
  • Reliable communication and documentation skills.
