Position Purpose
The Material Planner is responsible for the material planning of packaging, and purchasing supplies to support Farmina's manufacturing operations. This role ensures timely, efficient, and cost-effective purchasing practices that meet internal requirements and quality standards. The Buyer plays a key role in supplier management, contract negotiations, cost optimization, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure uninterrupted production and high-quality outputs
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field.
- 5+ years of material planning or procurement experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Experience in the pet food industry (strongly preferred).
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Familiarity with packaging materials and ingredient sourcing.
- Proficient in MS Office, Internet tools, and ERP systems (NAV preferred).
- Excellent communication, analytical, and time management skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Work on site at our Reidsville, NC Production Facility
Preferred Qualifications
Professional procurement certification (CPP, CPIM, or CPM).Experience with regulatory compliance across North America.Key Responsibilities
Sourcing and Procurement
Identify, audit, and evaluate potential suppliers for raw materials, ingredients, and packaging.Maintain daily contact with suppliers including freight forwarders and logistics partners, organizing both domestic and international transport.Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to secure optimal cost-effectiveness.Create procurement plans (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly) aligned with production needs and company strategy.Maintain and update the supplier and raw materials database.Inventory and Order Management
Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure timely and adequate supply.Place purchase orders and track delivery timelines to support uninterrupted production.Provide regular reports on purchase orders, backorders, and discrepancies.Quality and Compliance
Ensure all materials comply with internal quality standards and external regulations (U.S., Canada, Mexico).Resolve supplier complaints and quality issues promptly.Implement actions for obtaining and renewing import licenses.Monitor and update procurement procedures to reflect legal and regulatory changes.Cost and Performance Optimization
Analyze market trends and execute cost-saving initiatives.Continuously optimize procurement processes and department workflows.Track and report cost savings and procurement KPIs.Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with production, quality, logistics, regulatory, labeling, and other departments.Support new product development and packaging improvements.Communicate supply risks or opportunities that may impact operations.Training and Development
