Primary Purpose :
The Process Safety Specialist supports the implementation and sustainment of the site’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program, structured around seven core elements : Leadership, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), Learning from Experience, Safe Work Practices, Mechanical Integrity, and Operating Practices.
This role ensures consistent program execution, documentation accuracy, and field verification of safeguards, contributing to compliance with applicable OSHA, FERC, and PHMSA regulations. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering, the Specialist helps drive process safety ownership and continuous improvement across the LNG facility.
This position is located in Hackberry, LA. Employee’s primary residence must be located within a one-hour drive from the Hackberry plant site. This measure will assure that response time for callouts is kept to a minimum, which increases the safety of our employees in an unexpected or emergent situation. Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) is required.
Responsibilities :
- Support the execution of PSM goals, KPIs, and performance improvement initiatives defined by the HSSE Leadership Team.
- Maintain PSM documentation, dashboards, and action tracking within Enablon or an equivalent system to ensure traceability and visibility of progress.
- Assist with PSM awareness training, communications, and engagement activities that reinforce a process safety culture.
Coordinate and support PHA and LOPA workshops; maintain up-to-date documentation, recommendations, and close-out tracking.
Ensure PHA actions are integrated into the site’s risk register and properly documented in Enablon.Conduct field verifications to confirm safeguards and assumptions remain valid.Review MOC packages for completeness and technical accuracy; assist departments with documenting justifications, risk assessments, and required approvals.Participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) and verify that safeguards, procedures, and training requirements are complete before startup.Monitor MOC closure timelines and provide performance reports.Support and participate in incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions.Document and track corrective actions, ensuring timely completion and communication of lessons learned.Contribute to the development of learning bulletins and integration of lessons into procedures and PHAs.Conduct or participate in field-level verifications of permit-to-work systems, isolation procedures, confined space entries, and hot work controls.Validate that safe work practices align with PSM and risk control expectations.Identify improvement opportunities for procedural clarity and field compliance.Support mechanical integrity program activities.Verify that critical equipment, instrumentation, and protective systems (e.g., relief valves, ESDs, SIFs) maintain required functionality and documentation.Assist in developing and updating operating procedures and job aids.Support operating discipline through field audits, operator interviews, and compliance checks.Facilitate the rollout of revised procedures and ensure training completion is captured in Enablon.Monitor and report PSM Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support leadership visibility and continuous improvement.Provide data analysis and summaries for audits, management reviews, and regulatory inspections.Identify gaps or trends and propose risk-based recommendations to improve PSM program maturity.Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications : Education :
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, safety, or a related technical field.Experience :
3+ years of relevant experience in process safety or operations in an LNG, petrochemical, refining, or chemical processing facility.Familiarity with PSM regulatory frameworks (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119, FERC, PHMSA) and their application in an LNG environment.Demonstrated ability to interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and engineering documents.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Experience using digital compliance management systems (e.g., Enablon, PHA-Pro, or equivalent).Skills / Knowledge / Abilities :
Experience using digital compliance management systems (e.g., Enablon, PHA-Pro, or equivalent).Understanding of mechanical integrity principles, including fixed equipment inspection, rotating equipment reliability, and protective device testing.Ability to conduct and document field walkdowns, verify installed safeguards, and validate compliance with MOC, PSSR, and action item closures.Strong technical writing and documentation skills, capable of developing procedures, job aids, and summary reports with clarity and regulatory rigor.Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage cross-functional teams including Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and HSE personnel.Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and maintaining auditable records.Computer skills including, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, Adobe Acrobat Professional), SharePoint, etc.The candidate should have a working knowledge of industry and government standards.High level of HSSE knowledge.Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to be diplomatic and persuasive.Ability to communicate fluently in English.Organized and able to manage multiple activities timely and with a high degree of accuracy.Self-starter with ability to work strategically with minimal direction.Driven to meet and exceed performance parameters and work deadlines.Strong attention to details.Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.Able to remain calm and effective in emergencies. Must be able to stand, walk, climb, run, sit, kneel, twist, bend, pull, push, carry, lift, reach overhead and drive.
