Overview

At Vast, our mission is to contribute to a future where billions of people are living and thriving in space. We are building artificial gravity space stations to enable long-term stays in space without the adverse effects of zero gravity. Haven-1 is planned to be the world's first commercial space station in low Earth orbit, launching in May 2026. We are looking for a highly capable team to join our mission.

Vast is looking for a Station Test Technician (ECLSS) , reporting to the Hardware Development Supervisor , to support the development of systems required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. The Station Test Engineering team focuses on crafting mechanisms, fluid systems, and electronics to test hardware critical to the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) for our artificial-gravity commercial space station. This role is crucial for planning and executing tests of components essential to the safety of future astronauts and passengers.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position located in our Long Beach location.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, clean, and activate ground support equipment and test articles in partnership with engineering, focusing on pressurized ground systems
  • Operate, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and modify manufacturing and testing equipment, including pressurized systems from vacuum to 20,000 psig, pneumatic and hydraulic, oxygen systems, refrigerant systems, and data and control systems
  • Support development, acceptance, qualification, and investigative test campaigns via build and operation of ground support and flight equipment
  • Maintain laboratory and workshop, including cleanliness, stocking of consumables, tool control, and supporting design and build infrastructure
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions to support above activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing, test, operations, HVAC or other relevant role
  • High School Diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience in aerospace, power and gas, military, or other high-reliability manufacturing
  • Experience in HVAC or industrial gas industries
  • Experience with precision cleaning and assembly of precision-cleaned systems
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment
  • Experience building, modifying, troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating high-pressure equipment
  • Experience with automation and control systems, including data acquisition systems and PLCs
  • Experience with hazardous systems (cryogenic, flammable, pyrophoric, hypergolic, or high voltage)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to think quickly
  • Experience with forklifts, cranes, aerial platforms, and other industrial equipment
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience with aerospace testing standards (SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-810G, GSFC-STD-7000B, etc.)
  • Skilled in operation of machinery and hand tools
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing, ambiguous environment balancing multiple projects
  • Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work evenings and / or weekends to support critical mission milestones
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
  • Pay Ranges

    Salary Range : California

    $21.33 - $50 USD
