Development & Marketing Associate
Position Summary : The Development & Marketing Associate will support the school's advancement efforts, focusing on fundraising operations, donor stewardship, marketing support, and event coordination. This role requires a flexible, detail-oriented team player who is eager to assist the Director of Advancement across a wide range of projects in development, marketing, and communications.
This position blends administrative, creative, and technical skills to help advance the school's mission and deepen engagement with families, donors, and the community.
Key Responsibilities :
- Fundraising & Donor Support
- Assist in coordinating Annual Fund campaigns, giving days, and other fundraising initiatives
- Support donor stewardship, including preparing acknowledgment letters and helping with personalized outreach
- Conduct donor prospect research and assist with tracking engagement
- Marketing & Communications Support
- Maintain and regularly update the school's website and giving pages, ensuring content is accurate, timely, and aligned with branding
- Assist with social media scheduling, email marketing, and digital storytelling efforts
- Support creation and editing of marketing materials, including flyers, postcards, and event signage
- Help manage the school's photo archive and visual assets
- Event Coordination
- Assist in planning and executing development and community events, including donor receptions, fundraisers, and school-wide celebrations
- Coordinate event logistics such as invitations, RSVPs, signage, materials, and post-event follow-up
- Database & Administrative Support
- Maintain donor and gift records in the school's database (e.g., Blackbaud)
- Generate reports and assist with reconciliation in partnership with the Business Office
- Support gift entry, list management, and data integrity
- General Support & Flexibility
- Provide administrative and project support to the Director of Advancement
- Adapt to shifting priorities and assist with a variety of advancement and marketing initiatives
- Take on special projects as needed to help meet strategic goals
- Participate in school-wide events and represent the Advancement Office with professionalism and warmth
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience in nonprofit advancement, marketing, communications, or educationStrong writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skillsExperience with websites, digital content management systems, and email platforms (e.g., Finalsite, Mailchimp, Canva, etc.)Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detailProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with donor databases a plusAbility to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environmentA flexible mindset and commitment to the mission of The Independent SchoolIf you are interested please send your resume and cover letter to jessica.stong@theindependentschool.com
