The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA) in the Environmental Management Service (EMS). The incumbent is a Laborer within the Recycling Section. Responsibilities include handling all confidential and sensitive materials for shredding, operating equipment related to the destruction, disposing, and packaging of such materials, and recycling various types of materials. This position requires a security clearance due to the sensitive nature of materials. Work Schedule : Monday-Friday, 7 : 00 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m.

Physical Requirements : Work consistently requires significant heavy physical effort to lift, move, push, and pull recycling carts, bins, pallet jacks, dollies, hand trucks, equipment, and supplies. The worker frequently lifts and carries objects weighing 80 to 100 pounds. The work involves frequent walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. The incumbent usually will be required to perform duties indoors and outdoors. The incumbent will be exposed to the weather and inclement weather while working on the grounds. The incumbent will be exposed to dirt and dust while performing duties. The incumbent must observe prescribed safety regulations and careful handling of tools, materials, etc., to prevent injury to self and others.

Requirements :

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
