The City of Katy is hiring a Social Services Coordinator to help manage daily operations at the Senior Center, including activities, kitchen oversight, volunteer support, and participant services.

SUMMARY : Supports daily operations of the Senior Center by coordinating activities, overseeing the center's kitchen, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. Assists with participant services, volunteer coordination, program support, and administrative tasks to foster community engagement and inclusion.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Coordinates, schedules, sets up, and leads or supervises daily activities, games, classes, and special events.
  • Oversees the Center's kitchen; prepares and serves light meals or snacks as needed, in accordance with safety and health regulations.
  • Maintains records of kitchen, activity, and program supply needs; communicates supply requests to the Director in a timely manner.
  • Notifies the Director of facility or equipment maintenance issues.
  • Assists with participant check-in, attendance tracking, and gathering participant feedback.
  • Collaborates with other staff to support trips, outreach events, and seasonal programs.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in activity and dining areas.
  • Builds positive relationships with senior participants and helps foster a sense of community and inclusion.
  • With other staff members, enters new members and maintains participant records in MySeniorCenter and other software.
  • Recruits and trains new volunteers.
  • Assists seniors with enrollment in local safety and support service programs.
  • Communicates with volunteers to support scheduling, logistics, and program updates.
  • Maintains the department's online activity calendar and updates website content as needed.
  • Assists with other administrative tasks and special projects as assigned.
  • For purposes of business continuity, employees in this position are considered Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers, as defined by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
  • Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines :

Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation or Leisure Studies, Gerontology, Human Services, or related field AND five (5) years of experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of :

  • Department policies and procedures.
  • Senior citizen services and programs.
  • Community services and resources.
  • Skill in :

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Operating a personal computer, standard software, and general office equipment.
  • Communicating clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Organizing and maintaining files and data.
  • Interacting with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic status.
  • LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

  • A valid State Driver's License may be required.
  • American Red Cross CPR certification.
  • Food Handler certification.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT :

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move about the facility as needed to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to set up and arrange tables, chairs, and program materials.
  • Must be able to perform kitchen tasks including food preparation, serving, and cleanup.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Work is performed primarily in a senior center environment, including activity rooms, dining areas, and office spaces.
  • Position involves frequent interaction with older adults, volunteers, staff, and the public.
  • May require occasional travel to support off-site programs, trips, or outreach events.
  • Work schedule may include occasional evenings or weekends for special events.
