Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring Epic proficiency and a CT RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) within an acute care hospital setting
  • 24-bed unit with high-acuity patients such as CVA, TPA, AAA, MI (diagnostic only), hypertension, overdose, ETOH detox, GI bleed, septic shock, and more
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios : ICU 1 : 2 or 1 : 1 depending on acuity, IMCU 1 : 3 days and 1 : 4 nights
  • All rooms equipped with Phillips Intelevue monitors; nurses must interpret rhythm strips
  • All drips are titrated and have experience with vents (Avea in ICU, Bipap in IMCU) and external temporary pacers
  • Epic charting system in use
  • 12-hour night shifts starting at 7pm; four 12-hour shifts per week
  • Required to work every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Float to telemetry or IMCU possible, with ratios up to 1 : 5 on those units
  • Scrub color requirement is Caribbean blue; black or white shirts allowed under uniform, pants may be black or Caribbean blue
  • Care for very high acuity patients, including homeless, substance abuse, and mental health populations
  • Charge nurse typically does not take patient assignments
  • Support staff includes nurse aides (1 : 8), monitor techs, respiratory therapists, and pharmacy available 24 / 7
  • IV team available 7am-8 : 30pm, nurse resource support 24 / 7
  • Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
  • Must not have outside employment during assignment
  • No time off (RTO) permitted during the first two weeks; minimal RTO considered after
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this role

    • Requirements

  • Active CT RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Prior travel nurse experience required
  • Ability to interpret cardiac rhythm strips
  • Strong customer service, flexibility, empathy, and teamwork skills
