Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc. (VTF) is a nonstock corporation established in 1948 for the sole purpose of managing Virginia Tech’s endowment and real estate portfolio, now valued at $2.8 billion. VTF exists and operates as a separate, independent entity with its own officers and governing board – managing, investing, and distributing private resources to advance Virginia Tech’s mission and its strategic priorities. VTF’s wholly owned for-profit subsidiary, Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, Inc., is a research park that catalyzes commercialization and industry collaboration.
Position Summary :
Reporting to the Account Manager of Subsidiary Reporting, this position is responsible for preparing and reviewing financial transactions related to VTF’s subsidiaries, including CRC, Hotel Roanoke, WVTF, and the River Course, to support the accurate preparation of VTF financial statements in accordance with GAAP. The role also involves developing innovative and automated reporting processes to enhance efficiency and align with the team’s strategic goal of streamlining reports and delivering meaningful accounting information to stakeholders.
Role & Responsibilities :
Reconciliations :
- Prepare / Review monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation of various general ledger accounts related to the subsidiaries of VTF to ensure records are accurate for financial statement reporting. Primary responsibilities in this area focus on subsidiary transactions, including capital leases, inter-company, prepaids, deferred revenue, debt-related transactions for bond financing, including recording interest expense, debt management fees, and debt principal payments; as well as other reconciliations as needed to facilitate the issuance of timely financial reports.
Recording Transactions :
Calculate and prepare interest income for notes / interest receivable and internal advances if applicable.Prepare monthly VTCRC management transfers reconciliation and related journal entries.Prepare monthly VTCRC payroll journal entries.Prepare quarterly debt related journal entries (interest expense, debt issuance fees, principal payments, bond premium, bond draws).Prepare bank reconciliations related to Subsidiary reporting.Serve as a backup for recording other income deposits and other duties of the Program Support Technician.Update the Subsidiary Reporting Manager at regular intervals as needed.Documentation of Policies and Procedures :
Maintain accurate policies and procedures manual for all responsibilities of the position. The policies and procedures will be reviewed and updated annually and submitted to the Subsidiary Reporting Manager for review.Miscellaneous Reporting / Support :
Prepare various calculations / reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, such as the Reynolds Report, Ferrari Foundation Report, and Hotel Parking Lot Lease Analysis.Prepare other reports and provide assistance or leadership on other projects as needed or requested by the Subsidiary Reporting Manager.Qualifications :
Required B.S. in Accounting or related business field.Candidate should have 3 to 5 years of professional experience, thorough knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications, and knowledge of SCT Banner Finance preferred.Experience with data analytics and business intelligence platforms to support strategic decision-making, preferredAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, macros, and data visualization tools.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience with Microsoft Office and financial reporting.Strategic thinking to align automation with business goals, emphasizing speed, adaptability, and precision.Strong digital literacy, including experience with financial databases, automation tools, and exposure to artificial intelligence applications. Fundamental knowledge of accounting, reconciliations, and the ability to analyze data.Ability to leverage digital tools to streamline financial reporting and reconciliation processes.CPA or CPA candidate preferred.Physical Requirements :
