Job Summary
The MEP Estimator manages construction estimating projects, focusing on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing trades. Responsibilities include organizing bid solicitations, conducting quantitative analysis, reviewing schedules, costing, risk, and project specifications, while working independently with significant decision-making authority. Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders such as architects, engineers, owners, subcontractors, and suppliers is essential.
Location
This position is based at the Hagerman Louisville office. It is not a remote role.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and documents to understand MEP scope; conduct material take-offs and quantify materials and resources.
- Analyze labor, equipment, subcontractor costs, and overhead; prepare detailed cost estimates using estimating software.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, architects, owners, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates meet project requirements; prepare and present estimates and bid documents.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, negotiations, and bid strategy sessions; review scopes of work with subcontractors and suppliers before and after bids.
- Monitor and update estimates throughout the project lifecycle; track changes, revise estimates, and provide cost analysis reports.
- Assess constructability and logistics; develop schedules based on project durations and sequences.
- Organize bid day activities, coordinate bid teams, review bid forms, and manage communication.
- Identify permit fees, bonding, insurance, temporary facilities, and overhead costs; prepare bid advertisements and support publishing of XBE requirements.
- Prepare job costing reports and compile scope documentation for purchase orders and subcontract development.
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for successful bidding.
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of experience in large-scale vertical commercial construction estimating. A degree (BA / BS / AS) may substitute for up to 4 years of experience.Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills.Preferred experience in preconstruction estimating.Benefits
