H.S. Diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in related field preferred.
Experience
Professional coding experience 2 years. Advanced level training in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology required.
Licenses and Certifications
CPC – Certified Professional Coder required upon hire.CCS-P – Certified Coding Specialist – Physician based required upon hire.Other specialty certification (CGSC, COSC, CCC, etc.) preferred.Required Skills
Advanced knowledge of procedural and clinical diagnosis coding for professional billing.Knowledge of third-party and payer billing requirements.Strong communication skills.Detail oriented; strong organizational skills.High level of professionalism and strong work ethic.Proficient computer skills; ability to learn internal application systems.What You Will Do
Abstractions and assignment of professional codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS in compliance with guidelines.Review supporting documentation to ensure accurate coding of professional charges and maintain documentation of variances.Perform charge reconciliation of facility charges posted against OR / scheduled procedures, notify leadership of discrepancies, collaborate with practice staff and providers to complete coding.Participate in special projects and complete other duties as assigned (e.g., charge correction requests, research of payer policies, accounts receivable & denials management of professional charges).Additional Perks Of Being a Texas Health Coder
